Really quite the past week.   First off what about that weather…huh?  Wineter to summer just like that.  Doors on the winery have been open and those with enough fortune have trekked to the Fauquier countryside to enjoy the patio and vistas.  It is amazing to see the first blush of spring in the forests as the buds pop red and green.  It’s like peach fuzz I grew on my upper lip as a 14 year old.  I was so proud of that faint manhood and I am sure the trees are relieved to again be decked in their nascent cloak even if it is just a faintness of what is yet to come.  Needless to say – this weekend the patio will be open and we’ll be serving outside.

Last Thursday we bottled our premium red wines – the Petit Verdot, Cabernet Franc, and – for the first time this year – our 100% Syrah.  This is a lovely wine with grapes sourced from the Quaker Run Vineyard outside Syria, Virginia.  If you have not been to the countryside of Virginia south of Old Rag on rte 231, you have missed some of the most beautiful vistas in the Commonwealth.  Make it a day trip and head to Quaker Run Vineyards and Farm.  They also have several varieties of apples for sale.  And owners Tom and Debbie Flynn are some of the nicest folks we have met in the biz.

So these premium wines get an extra 10-12 months in barrel.  And they are carefully pressed for the freshest juice runoff.  They signify our best efforts.  These are the wines which, along with our Reserve Chardonnay and Petit Manseng, are winning gold, double gold, and platinum in the top competitions in the United States. (We’re excited about what the new Syrah will do.  It will be released soon!)

We also re-opened the Historic and beautiful Oak Hill Mansion here on the property last weekend. This was a huge undertaking several months in the making and combining the efforts of all our staff and management.  Special thanks go out to our Navigator Andy for his vision and commitment to mission, to Tenacious Elizabeth for her hours spent ensuring that the logistical details are perfect, to Lisa for creating the perfect food pairings for each wine, and also to Sarah with Country Vintner.  Many others such as Ryan and John and Matt and Sherrie and Jorge and Rick and Sharon also gave and gave to make this happen.  Simply put: we are thrilled with the results.  If you have not already done so, join us.  You will be floored.  I guarantee it.  Read on…there is a little reward for you when you visit embedded below.

I had my hands full this week with the winery addition.  We are increasing from 3 restroom facilities to 17.  Those lines will be a thing of the past very soon.  This…makes…me….happy!  The vineyard tower was also put up  and eventually you will be able to walk to the top to look out over the broad expanse of the little place we call BOW.  The new covered tasting are will begin in two weeks and the new Cabernet Sauvignon and Cab Franc vineyards are being laid out and made ready.  Soooooooo exciting and a little something for everyone!

Justice is happy…In fact we all are.  BOW is about joy.  BOW is about acceptance.  BOW is about great wines and family times.  It is about friendship and love and blissfulness.  EVERYTHING that we are doing this Spring is about reawakening and recommitting to being the very best at what we do.  The winery, Oak Hill, Middleburg….follow your bliss to each and experience the best we have to offer.

Hope that we see you soon…
