Contingency & Surprise

In the winery business, Contingency and Surprise become your constant companions. Contingency: "So you have enough wine to get through the wineter Brian?" Surprise: "Another weekend with less than perfect weather. You've fixed the driveway, but who will show up?"
Now don't get me wrong. I have spent my life living with Contingency and Surprise. That is why it made perfectly good sense to open a winery. Indeed, I am the master of Contingency and Surprise. Brian: "Contingency, we always have enough wine for our fine friends and customers. I am prepared to will it into existence -with more than a little assistance from the lovely Sharon and her man-about-town Rick. Oh, and Surprise, I have fire-pits and lots of great wine and staff to warm the cockles of the heart! So you see, Contingency and Surprise are really no big thing. BOW is the proof and you are the beneficiary!
Let's show Surprise and Contingency what for. Bring on the dogs, the kids, the joyful seniors quietly watching, the guitarists, the snacks and picnics -oh the picnics with table cloths and crock pots and balloons. Give us the charity of community and the gift of human care: the thirty five hundred dollars raised last week for Haitian relief! We'll rejoice in the wine loft and revel on the main floor as we create in the cellar. We'll explore the patios and the vineyards as the weather warms and the sun breaks through the wineter's white blanket.
We shall free ourselves of the dreary week and find again the Bacchanal of human comfort and camaraderie that is BOW. We shall break binds holding us apart and form new bonds bringing us together. We shall become community. We shall find ourselves in the care and friendship of others, now strangers -and soon enough dear friends. We shall be amazed at the circle of love that is BOW.
Sharon and I will be there; there is no other place that we can imagine wanting to be.
